What Dondi AI actually is
Dondi opens on a large gallery of realistic, ready-made companions. You can browse popular profiles, open a prebuilt character with her own backstory and scenario, or build your own through a nine-step creator covering appearance, personality, and interests. The interface is dark with bright pink controls, and the whole product is organized around two actions: Browse and Chat. It is one of the fastest apps in this niche to go from landing page to first message.
That simplicity cuts both ways. Underneath the polish, the core experience is the familiar one – pick a companion and talk. The claimed differentiator is memory: Dondi says its companions carry context across sessions, so a conversation you start Monday still matters on Friday. Independent reviewers have noticed the same pitch; one review dubbed it “the memory engine” of the current newcomer class.
Chat and NSFW: the strongest part of the product
In our testing, Dondi’s chat is its best feature. Responses stay inside the character’s scenario instead of collapsing into generic assistant-speak, and the companion keeps tone consistent across long exchanges. NSFW roleplay works without the jarring mode-switch you get on some platforms – the character simply stays in the scene.

The memory question
Memory is Dondi’s entire reason to exist, so we probed it directly: preferences stated early in testing, names, running bits from prior sessions. The results were promising but incomplete. Within a session and across consecutive days, the companion held context better than the genre’s goldfish standard. But the honest verdict – ours and other reviewers’ – is that no free or short trial window is long enough to prove long-term memory.
